Karin, a precocious teenager, is abandoned by her father in the Japanese countryside. Living in a temple with her grandfather, she meets Anzu, a huge “spirit cat” and a notorious sloth tasked with taking care of her. Distrustful of her new guardian, Karin sabotages Anzu’s odd jobs for the townspeople and befriends the eccentric spirits of the local forest. In an effort to win Karin over, Anzu accidentally makes a pact with the devil and hell breaks loose.
