SEPTA operates in the Philadelphia metropolitan area
Chronology
A group of enterprising high school graduates band together to take down a fraudulent college admissions system. A remake of the Thai film Bad Genius (2017). At the beginning of the film there is a wall in which Lynn calculates the cost of the trip to the private school she attended. The film shows a stack of public transportation tickets clearly displaying the SEPTA logo, which stands for Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.
She receives a scholarship to a prestigious high school in Seattle
Half a minute later, the film identifies the city in which Lynn and her father live as Seattle. ReferencesRoots (1977). Lynn (Kallina Liang) is a brilliant student who has no family money. His widowed father Meng (Benedict Wong) works tirelessly in his self-service laundry business.
They recruit her to give them answers
She befriends a rich girl, Grace (Taylor Hickson), who slowly draws her into the world of rich kids. Bank (Jabari Banks) is another smart fellow in their class. It appears to be adapted from a Thai film that I haven’t seen. All I know is that this movie needs to change Lynn.
The first thirty minutes are very standard and rather boring
I imagine a poor innocent Chinese girl being tempted to do something bad by a bunch of rich white kids. It would have been more fun if she started the movie by doing some kind of scheme to make money. I would even accept a narrative in which she reads the people around her. She needs to be emotionally intelligent, as she becomes later in the film.
with a twist
It’s not inspiring at all. It takes a lot of time to get into something interesting. Sometimes I thought that Banks should be the main character, but actually it should be Lynn…
